Stellar
Yesterday was exceptional.. It was a bright bluebird day with a perfect temperature and light breeze.. Stayed outside most of the day.. at my favorite 270 Thousand year-old outdoor gym.. The Aeolian Buttes..
They rest in a spectacular setting overlooking the Mono Lake Basin.. flanked to East by the Mono Craters [the youngest mountain chain in North America] and to the West by the Sierra Nevada..
Having learned this the hard way.. This grandpa always warms up thoroughly before getting off the ground.. Warming the entire body is important, no matter what age and no matter what athletic activity..
Yoga has a very comprehensive methodology for Warming …
Starting in a warm room wearing warm loose clothing… then scan your body .. a little soreness on one side? Left calf little tight? Then using the breath., direct it into that area as you do your warm-up routine.. Vinyasa Flow or whatever you prefer.
Injury? No problem.. use Gentle, slow, small movements at first.. especially with an injury.. Using the breath.. Close your eyes and direct the light deep into the tissues of the injury as you inhale.. Sustain the breath several minutes each day till that area actually Glows.. This light you see is more than just oxygenation of those tissues. It is Life Force/Prana regenerating that part of your body.. Speeding recovery..
This is an Art form.. called Pranayama [#4 of Patanjali’s 8 limbed path], which has a multitude of beneficial effects on the body and the mind..
[ Important, find a yoga/teacher class that resonates with you.. videos are great, but to make sure your executing movements correctly, your pranayama correctly, etc. You need a good teacher. Explore your neighborhood.. You'll find a good one.]
Now, continue your warm-up until you've got a slight sweat.. you feel the heat in your muscles in your joints.. Range of motion can be increased, but not to the point of pain.. back it off if you feel pain..
Maintain the Heat as best you can.. till your routine/activity is done.. If you have time to wind down completely.. lay prone on your mat with a blanket over you.. again stay warm ..
As always, if you have a question regarding your Yoga practice.. I bet we can discover the answer..
Pulley tendons require protection.. these in cut pockets are sharp…
View from the ancient gym..
