That Depth of Silence

Excitedly skinning off Hwy 395 toward Virginia Lakes on new Backcountry Alpine touring gear.. I quickly discovered they were not an upgrade.. oh no.. The Boots were too tight with a more limited range of motion... and the skis were not lighter than my 10 yr old AT set up..

It's possible to make an array of different skis work, but boots.. they really have to be fitted properly.. Multi day, backcountry tours are challenging enough without adding boot discomfort..

A little disappointed that I wasn't going to be able to make a full day of traveling the Sierra Nevada backcountry.. so I took an extended lunch.. soaking in the intoxicating silence… and breathtaking views..

Is there anything more important than Silence and Space? Not for this one…
